6 Tips to Feel Even Closer to Your Partner

Being in a great relationship is an amazing thing — you and your partner have fun together, love each other and have each other's backs. There are plenty of fun and easy ways to keep the amorous vibes flowing, whether you feel like shaking up your typical Tuesday or you'd like to go all out for an upcoming holiday. (Valentine's Day, perhaps?) Here are six ideas for stoking the romance-factor in your relationship.

Tip #1: Re-read old love letters

Simply getting in a romantic mindset will automatically make you feel even more loving (and, therefore, act even more loving) toward your partner. Break out a love letter your partner wrote to your early on in the relationship — emails count, too! — or reread an old journal you wrote in when you first met. You'll be flooded with happy memories of new love, and will be reminded of why you fell in love with your partner.


Tip #2: Relive a memory from your early dating days

There are likely more than a few moments from the start of your relationship that really stick out for you. Just for fun, try to recreate one of those times—maybe going on a date to a restaurant you haven't visited in a while, cuddling in a park that you used to go to together, or hiking an old trail that you two took early on. Literally walking in your own nostalgic footsteps will make those old feelings even more intense, causing both of you to reminisce about old times. 

Tip #3: Take a weekend away together

For couples that are constantly busy or feeling overwhelmed by that good ol' to-do list, taking a weekend away can be completely rejuvenating. Whether you take a trip far out of town or book a room close-by (for more of a staycation vibe), you'll be whisked away from all the stuff that tends to get in the way of romance no matter how in love you may be. Plus, this is a great way to create a new memory that only you two can share. 

Tip #4: Unwind together

Turn your home into the ultimate spa experience for two: take a long bath together, take turns giving each other a massage and then sit in fluffy robes just soaking in the chance to have nowhere to be and nothing to do. Allowing yourself some time to take a much-needed breather will help you feel more relaxed and help you connect with your partner. Take this time to catch up with each other – talk about the next place you both want to visit or new hobbies that you would like to try. You don’t need to plan out all of the details - just have fun imagining all of the fun things that you can do together.

Tip #5: Adventure together

Doing something outside your norm is a fun way to make a lasting memory and will create a bond that only you two will share. Any kind of activity from bungee-jumping to a city scavenger hunt adds to both your memory bank as well as your emotional bank with your partner.  And every time you talk about your adventure, whether it’s with friends, family or just between the two of you, happy memories of that experience will resurface and strengthen your emotional bond.

Tip #6: Learn something new

Taking on a new skill together is a fabulous way to introduce more romance into your relationship. Check out your local city college or cooking school for classes on making various types of cuisines or see if your city offers art classes you both can sign up for as beginners. Dabbling in the culinary or visual arts will allow you to use show off your newfound skills to your friends and family and will give you two a way to reconnect as you attend classes. If you're both light on your feet, you could even try taking a dance class, which would allow you to get physically close while bonding emotionally over the experience. (Win-win!)
