The Single Life: What to do on Valentine’s Day if You’re Single
Back in high-school it was easy to get caught up in the drama of Valentine’s Day. Guessing who’d give a card to who or who your secret Valentine was. Naturally, as we get older, Valentine’s Day can lose its luster a little bit. But what should you do on the dreaded February day if you’re single? As it turns out, quite a lot!
There’s no need to fear this most-romantic of holidays. K-Y® is here to help you discover what to do on Valentine’s Day if you’re single and most importantly, how to be happy single.
Take A Walk
If all the loved-up couples are making you feel a little queasy, then take a walk to clear your head. After all, discovering how to be happy alone is part and parcel of being single. If you can be happy in your own company, that’s the first step in realizing you don’t need a partner to be content.
Put on your walking shoes and take a visit to your local park, woodland or if you’re lucky enough to live near the coast, the beach. Just make sure you stay away from any movie theaters and restaurants – there’ll be too many couples there for you to stomach.
Host An Anti-Date Night
If you don’t have a lover to spend a Valentine’s date night with, then how about hosting an “anti-date night” with your other single friends. Get the gang together and have a night-in with good food, drinks and conversation.
You could even discuss your plans for the future, watch a film or play some games to pass the time. A Valentine’s Day to remember with the people who mean the most to you, apart from family of course.
An experience like no other, speed dating is certainly one way of grabbing yourself a quick date this Valentine’s Day. For the uninitiated, there are a few things you should probably know about speed dating to get you up to speed, pardon the pun.
How does speed dating work?
It’s fairly simple. A group of singles gather at a pre-determined location and are given a nametag. Each individual is then sat in a chair, normally set out in a circle and given about four minutes to chat to the person opposite them.
After that, you switch to the table next to you. In a speed-dating tradition, the ladies don’t move seats, instead allowing the men to get up and move to the person next door. At the end of the circuit, each person receives an individual score, which should let you know whether you’re going on a proper date with anyone.
Just in-case you feel like you’re going to get lucky, take some condoms with you on your speed-dating session. After all, it’s better to be over-prepared than under-prepared. Use as directed.
Have a DIY Pamper Day
If you’re on a tight budget, there’s nothing better than relaxing at home with some music and scented candles. Lock the doors on Valentine’s Day and treat yourself to a luxurious pamper day. Have a long bath or shower, buy some soothing moisturizer and give yourself the pampering session you’ve been dying to have for so long.
Then, order takeout or cook yourself your favorite meal and relax with your favorite movie. It’s your day, so you can do what you wish. If you feel like splashing the cash, you could even take yourself to a deluxe spa for a full-day of Valentine’s pampering.
Start Your Own Tradition
Normally the stuff of the festive period, traditions can easily be applied to any holiday. All that you need to do is ensure that you continue to apply the tradition to each Valentine’s Day. Perhaps you could make a special meal every year or take a trip to see family you haven’t been in contact with for the year?
Either way, your tradition is exactly that: yours. Being single on Valentine’s Day doesn’t need to be a bad thing, use it to do those little things you’ve been putting off for so long.
Valentine’s Day Trips
Depending on work schedules and the days that Valentine’s falls on each year, you could take a trip to somewhere you’ve always wanted. Whether it’s an extravagant trip to Venice or a weekend away within the US, there are plenty of options that could be perfect for you.
Set Up An Online Dating Profile
If you’re on the lookout for love and speed-dating hasn’t worked out so far, perhaps it’s time to brave the internet and set up an online dating profile? With hundreds of websites littering the internet, you’re bound to find one that suits your personal preferences.
We know this sounds like a big step and for the technophobes among you a terrifying prospect, but that’s why we created our own helpful guide looking at how best to set up your dating profile. For now, the best thing to do is be honest and use a photograph that actually looks like you – the less catfish situations there are the better.
